Besides trial and error, there are many different methods for audio engineers seeking to improve their proficiency in the world's most popular digital audio workstation.

The best way to become well-versed in Digidesign’s Pro Tools digital audio workstation software is through hands-on experimentation.

However while experimenting with Pro Tools, it is not uncommon for questions to arise that are not fully addressed by the software's included documentation.

Whenever this happens, it is best to consult with a professional audio engineer fluent in Pro Tools DAW software. Unfortunately this is not a viable option for most Pro Tools users. However, there are three other common approaches to acheiving a deeper understanding of Digidesign's Pro Tools software.

Look Online for Pro Tools Tips and Tricks

The easiest and least expensive way to learn more about Pro Tools is to spend some time online researching the many different aspects of Pro Tools software. The internet is home to dozens of forums, blogs and articles dedicated to Pro Tools software, whether it be Pro Tools M-Powered, Pro Tools LE or Pro Tools|HD.

Many of these online sources contain practical tips and tricks submitted by expert Pro Tools users. With a little bit of time spent, novice Pro Tools users will likely find a wealth of information on any area of the Pro Tools software.

Digidesign Pro Tools Tutorial DVDs

Another inexpensive way to learn more about Pro Tools is to buy one of the many Pro Tools tutorial DVDs that are available online and in music instrument retailers. These tutorial DVDs tend to be in the $20 to $50 price range – much cheaper than tuition at a Digidesign-approved Pro Tools Recording School.

The DVDs are usually grouped by Pro Tools release number with the latest tutorials being made available shortly after the release of each new Pro Tools software revision. It also worth noting that the Pro Tools Method One DVD is included with every new Pro Tools|HD and Pro Tools LE system.

Digidesign Pro Tools Certification

Finally, there is the very expensive option of enrolling in an authorized Digidesign Training Facility and becoming a Certified Pro Tools user. Pro Tools Certification is a comprehensive method of learning Pro Tools and gives students the option of becoming a Certified Pro Tools Operator, Expert or Icon Mixer for the latest version of Pro Tools software.

The training facilities are located all over the world and are usually housed in established recording schools that have been pre-approved by Digidesign to offer the Pro Tools curriculum and ultimately, Pro Tools Certification.

While Pro Tools Certification may not make sense for all Pro Tools users, the other two options of purchasing tutorial DVDs and conducting online research are viable alternatives when looking to improve proficiency in Digidesign's Pro Tools DAW software.
